Every year, 2.9 million newborns die from largely preventable causes and another 26 million are stillborn. Quality birth care, which requires institutional and community interventions, focusing on the timing of birth. This is the time when most deaths occur and most lives can be saved and long-term disabilities are avoided through greater coverage of effective interventions.
