Gas made up 59% of Bangladesh’s energy supply in 2020 and fuels more than two-thirds of electricity generation. By 2022, LNG imports accounted for 22% of the country’s total gas demand, making Bangladesh quite susceptible to the global market volatility. As the world is fast distancing from fossil fuels, it is necessary for Bangladesh to make quick moves to increase its renewable energy share in its energy mix. Currently, the installed renewable energy capacity in Bangladesh stands at 967 MW,  just over 3.7% of total installed power generation capacity. The government of Bangladesh has set a target of covering 40% of its power generation with clean energy by 2041 (including 10% of renewables in power generation). With the theme of “Enhancing Energy Security, Sustainability and Affordability in a Fast Decarbonized World”, the Bangladesh Energy & Power Summit 2024 is going to take place on 9-10 July 2024 in Dhaka. By bringing together senior stakeholders across the value chain to discuss in depth the latest scenarios,  market trends, share experience and insights as well showcasing technological advances in future fuels, such as green ammonia, hydrogen and offshore wind energy, floating solar PV, energy storage and energy efficiency.
